Hypochondria at its Best!

19 February 2007

An article in Yahoo odd news today shows how some people will fall for anything and even “catch” it.

An artist, wanting to make a statement about pharmaceutical company advertising, created not only a fake illness but a fake medication for it. Dysphoric Social Attention Consumption Deficit Anxiety Disorder created by artist Justine Cooper, caused a stir when people started believing that it was an illness they might have. Soon it infiltrated the internet and other web sites started incorporating it into their sites.

Cooper intentionally made her exhibit subtle stating: “The drug ads themselves are sometimes so comedic. I couldn’t be outrageously spoofy so I really wanted it to be a more subtle kind of parody that draws you in, makes you want this thing and then makes you wonder why you want it and maybe where you can get it.”

Check out the article and have a good laugh!

Take Care!
